Quartz used 360-degree video technology to immerse the viewer in the Arctic landscape.

Quartz Creative has won Digiday’s 2019 Award for “Best Branded Content Program B2B” for its creation of “The New Global Economy: A 360-Degree Docuseries” in partnership with OppenheimerFunds.

The award-winning series is composed of two long-form branded interactive features that combine immersive 360-degree video and far-flung storytelling. In 2018, Quartz and OppenheimerFunds set out to create a project with this first-to-market technology that would satisfy their goal of amplifying awareness of OppenheimerFunds global product offerings as well as drive engagements on Qz.com.

To create the series, Quartz and OppenheimerFunds shot on-site at the Yiwu Market (the world’s largest wholesale market) in China to bring viewers to the ground-level of China’s rising e-commerce giants and highlight investment opportunities like Alibaba and Tencent. They also traveled to the glaciers of the Arctic to explore how climate change is giving rise to Arctic tourism, highlighting investment opportunities with cruise operators like Carnival. The award-winning final videos are a combination of breathtaking 360-degree video, artful photo-features, and data visualizations.

The hard work put into the project by the Quartz Creative and marketing teams has put Quartz in good company in this year’s Digiday Publishing Awards. The awards celebrate and recognize companies that are modernizing the digital media landscape in novel and exciting ways. Over the years, these awards have honored leading work from brands, agencies, publishers and tech providers such as The Players’ Tribune, Dotdash, NBC News, Purch and more.
